Grading

Completion of all assignments is required to pass this class. Grades will be calculated according to the following formula:

  • 30% midterm exam
  • 35% final exam
  • 35% term projects

Exams will be short answer and/or essay questions, based on all class materials. This includes readings, lectures, class discussions, videos, etc. The final exam will be cumulative; that is, questions on the final exam will cover material from the entire semester.

Term projects consist of a sociological analysis of a youth cultural or subcultural group, or a comparison of two or more groups. This assignment must have a written component of approximately 6-15 pages, and may contain a visual or audio component as well. The larger the audio/visual element, the shorter the written component may be. Partnerships are acceptable if discussed with me in advance; however, no more than two people may work on one term project. Term projects will be discussed in detail during class.

All assignments will be graded by your T.A. I will make adjustments, if necessary, for differences in grading between T.A.s. Please direct any questions you have about your grade to your T.A.
